What to Expect on Your First Visit to Smile Designs
Your first visit will be pleasant and very informative. We will review your dental and health history so that we know you better. Every patient is unique and has their own needs and Dr. Rauchwerger and his staff want to understand yours so that they can, with your input, create a treatment plan specifically for you.
Please bring any questions with you that you may have about your dental health so that we can discuss them during your visit.
Your appointment will include a comprehensive examination, including periodontal probes to check for gum disease, screening for cancer, full mouth x-ray, intraoral photographs, and a thorough external examination of your teeth. If time allows, we will include a cleaning at this time. Patients with more complex needs will need to schedule a separate cleaning appointment, as their first examination may take a little more time. After the examination, we will discuss your treatment plan with you, explaining our recommendations in detail and addressing your concerns.
After your first visit, you should have a complete picture of your dental health and a plan created by you and the team at Smile Designs for how to proceed to achieve your optimal smile and oral health.
Emergencies happen to everyone. We don’t want you to have to wait for help. When you call, please provide as much information as possible about your emergency. We will do our best to see you the same day you call to do an emergency evaluation and temporary treatment. We will then schedule a regular appointment to complete the work.
If you have never been seen in our office, we will treat your emergency as stated above, and then schedule a first visit for a full evaluation.
A prosthodontist is a dentist who specializes in caring for patients who have missing or unhealthy teeth due to poor oral care or medical conditions. This specialty area of dentistry requires three additional years of graduate level training and certification in the restoration and replacement of teeth. Their main objective is to return a patient’s teeth to optimum appearance and function. The state-of-the-art procedures they provide are beyond those of a general dentist.
The prosthodontist diagnoses the current dental issues and creates a treatment plan with the patient. This plan will include rehabilitation and return of normal use of teeth for eating, talking, comfort, and appearance. A prosthodontist may provide specialty care in the creation of crowns, bridges, dentures (partial or complete), implants, TMJ pain, sleep apnea, reconstruction for cancer patients or patients with other degenerative diseases, or traumatic injuries to the mouth or jaw.
If you need an expert to assist you in attaining an optimal smile both for esthetic and/or health reasons, a prosthodontist is the expert in the procedures necessary to reach your goals.
